Howdy family!
As always, I’m blessed to be here with you again at Life With Lexis Kai! This post took a bit longer than I anticipated because sometimes inspiration strikes unexpectedly, and I always want to be true to that. But that’s my business, in my Auntie Tab would say! If you’re wanting audio for post, make sure you are subscribed to the blog. I am only 3 subscribers away from my goal!
Today, I want to share a valuable spiritual lesson I’ve discovered over the past few months. As a proud Virgo Sun with a Capricorn Moon, I must admit that I can be especially hard on myself. It’s all too easy to focus on the negatives, so I’ve realized how important it is to step back and recognize my progress.
Let me dive right into a story that really captures this journey! Recently, I was registered to take the LSAT to apply to the NCCU Law program for 2025. For those who might not know, the LSAT is a required exam for anyone looking to enter law school. I signed up and paid in February, feeling optimistic and excited about what was ahead.

However, when the time came to schedule my exam, I logged into my LSAC account only to find that all the slots were taken! I couldn’t believe it; there I was, entirely within the deadline, but without a chance to take that exam. To add to my frustration, I didn’t have another $238 to reschedule, and this April test was my last shot before NCCU’s application deadline. Just like that, my plans for the year felt shattered.
To be honest, my heart sank to my ass. I felt discouraged and disappointed, and it was easy for all those pesky negative thoughts to creep in: “You weren’t going to get in anyway,” “You didn’t study hard enough,” “Law school is for neurotypicals.” You know how it goes—the mind can be our worst enemy!
In my readings of The Artist’s Way, I came across a term called “blurbs,” which describes those negative self-talk patterns. Recognizing these fleeting thoughts as they arise in our daily reflections is necessary. Were those harsh judgments about myself really true? Yes, I didn’t study as much as I could have, but frankly, that’s a work in progress for me. While I faced some challenges in my higher education journey, I have learned so much about what truly drives me and my aspirations.
What was really eye-opening is that the LSAC and Prometric were the ones setting these limitations—not me! Oh, and let’s talk about the LSAT process; it’s clear that there are layers to how it operates that many find troubling, especially those of us who recognize the systemic issues at play.
Suddenly, I felt like I was back at square one with no path to law school in 2025. I felt like I had let down Lexi Pooh; ever since second grade, it was her dream to become a lawyer. But then I paused and asked myself: “Do I truly want to pursue this path?” I mean, considering the current state of the legal field, would a law degree even be worth it in five years?

And here’s the beautiful thing I learned, cousins: sometimes life doesn’t give you exactly what you want when you want it. But that’s okay because true love and support don’t mean giving in to every desire. Love often guides us through challenges, and sometimes, that means setting boundaries and helping us grow, even when it feels uncomfortable.
I had a conversation with Papa about the loving yet protective boundaries of relationships. Just like those boundaries in marriage, there are also healthy practices in our lives, such as fitness and nutrition, that safeguard our well-being. Initially, we might not see them as nurturing forces, but they cultivate our growth over time, much like the discipline mothers give through their loving yet firm direction.
I’m still not sure why I wasn’t set on this path to law school right now. Perhaps it’s because I need to build the habits that will allow me to thrive. Maybe it’s about overcoming self-sabotaging thoughts that have held me back. Or it could be that this pause will give me the financial stability I need to pursue law school without added stress. There’s also the chance that it will allow me time to focus on my blossoming brand and businesses.
One thing’s for sure—I’m still committed to attending law school! But I’ve come to appreciate that this unexpected turn has granted me invaluable opportunities to plan and find my inner peace.
So, if you’re feeling restricted in any area of your life, I encourage you to embrace that feeling. It might just lead you to a place of growth, clarity, and reflection! Let’s celebrate our journeys together and discover how these moments can shape us for the better.
